C0289 1849 Queen Victoria Silver Godless Florin Coin - Extremely Fine - SPINK 3890

The 1849 United Kingdom florin reverse shows four crowned shields in cruciform, with a rose in the center, and floral emblems in diagonals. Three lions and the roses represent England, a single lion and the thistle represent Scotland, and the harp and shamrock represent Ireland. The surrounding legend reads: 'ONE FLORIN' above, and 'ONE TENTH OF A POUND' below.

The obverse features the crowned head of young Victoria facing left, with hair in a plait around her ear. The legend reads: 'VICTORIA REGINA', and the date.

This coin is graded: Extremely Fine. Please see images for detail. The coin you are purchasing will be the one displayed in the images above.

Fun Fact: The 'Godless' type florin, lacking any religious iconography, faced unpopularity within the deeply devout society of its era, leading to its withdrawal from circulation after 1849.
